Silky soft skin for your little one
Sometimes that soft baby skin makes way for flaky skin, red and chapped spots or eczema. Ouch! Of course, that doesn't make anyone happy. The weather, changing temperatures or long baths can be the cause. It can also simply be genetically determined. Baby skin is sensitive, so a mild treatment is nice. With the right care, your child will get rid of that itchy and scratchy skin in no time. What should you pay attention to when choosing the care for very dry skin? We give tips.
What causes dry baby skin?
The cause of dry skin may differ, but in all cases it is the case that the natural fat barrier of the skin is disturbed or is originally less well constructed, which is why your mini will have dry skin. And this can be caused by wind, sun, changing temperatures, long baths or it is simply genetically determined. Under these circumstances, young skin is less likely to produce sebum and fat. The consequence of less fat on the skin is that the natural protective layer of the skin has shrunk to a minimum, or sometimes even disappeared completely, resulting in flaky skin. What you can do: Apply, apply, apply!
Tips for caring for dry skin
Keep the areas extra greasy with a good ointment or balm based on natural oils, especially when you go outside. Dry skin is less oily, and less oil means less protection. With the Comfort Cream from Karma Mama you give the skin extra care. Apply daily and your child can get going again. Do you have a baby? Then use a greasy cream like ours immediately after bathing for the entire body. If your child is a little older, you can use the cream on the face and cheeks and on dry spots. Preferably apply the cream to skin that is still slightly damp. This way the product is better absorbed by the skin.
Additional tips
Use a mild soap such as our Gentle All-Over Wash or even better a Mild Bath Oil, the Soothing Oil is very useful for this. Water and soap can dry out the skin. To prevent dry skin after bathing, it is also wise to limit bathing time and not use water that is too hot. Bathing for too long and too hot dries out the skin. So don't bathe for too long. A baby needs a bath of 5-10 minutes. The longer you bathe, the softer the skin becomes and the more easily it can become damaged. The PH value of water is different from that of the skin, which is why water always brings the skin slightly out of balance, hence an oil during bathing or good lubrication afterwards.
After bathing, dress your child in comfortable clothing made of soft and natural materials. Avoid wearing wool directly on the skin as this irritates bare skin. Natural materials such as organic cotton, linen, bamboo or hemp are nice to wear.
